THE PIVOT ROADMAP · STEP 1 OF 4

Map Your Skills

Audit what transfers — troubleshooting, systems thinking, client work. This is an inventory, not a resume edit.

What Field Work Already Taught You

Diagnosing faults under pressure, reading service histories, coordinating vendors, and translating technical options for non-technical clients are daily realities for field managers — and they are the core of hands-on service roles.

The Transferable Backbone

Documentation, safety habits, test equipment, operating fundamentals, and a structured troubleshoot-then-verify loop. These move across nearly every hands-on role you shortlist.

Run Your Own Audit

  • List every task from your last three roles — not your job titles.
  • Tag each task as technical, procedural, or interpersonal.
  • Compare your tags against the job descriptions of target roles and mark the matches.
  • Turn the matches into a one-page transfer ledger you can reuse in every later step.

What to Write Down

Skill name, where you used it, how often, and one provable win. This ledger becomes the raw material for your resume and every interview answer in Step 4.

The Mindset Shift

You are not starting over — you are re-deploying. Step 1 exists to make that obvious to you before you try to make it obvious to a hiring manager.
